Kevin Millwood retires

It's been a little quiet at Florio Facts since the clock turned to February, but that's alright. Rumor has it there's a big game tonight in one of the major sports? I'll have to check and see....but news out of baseball, Kevin Millwood has decided to retire after 16 seasons in the majors. Millwood came up as a member of the Braves in the late 1990s, essentially replacing John Avery as the 4th member of THE Braves rotation of the 90s with Maddux, Glavine & Smoltz. Millwood has an All-Star appearance to his credit and also a no-hitter as a member of the Phillies in 2003. As a member of the Indians in 2005, Millwood was fantastic, leading the league with a 2.86 ERA but had awful run support and finished with a below .500 W-L at 9-11. He finishes his career with over 2000 K's a career 4.11 ERA. It is a little weird to see Millwood retire, as I remember him playing almost all my life, which means I am getting old watching the last of the 1990s stars finish out their careers, but Millwood can retire knowing he was an above average pitcher for 16 years, which most pitchers cannot say.
