Valverde to the Marlins

UPDATE: Looks like this is not true, per NBC's HardballTalk. Valverde's not signing just yet, and like I said, Cishek's still closing.

Per ESPN and CBS Fantasy Sports, Jose Valverde is close to a deal with the Miami Marlins. Valverde closed with the Tigers the last few seasons, but has a history of volatility. Miami has a rough bullpen with little big names or track record. Valverde could compete for the closer's gig in Spring Training; Manager Mike Redmond could make him closer to make him a trade chip at the trade deadline, as Miami should be sellers. I expect Steve Cishek should be the closer moving forward: he's young and a solid building block for the 'pen.
